The IWC welcomes new Executive Secretary
Martha Rojas Urrego

 Martha Rojas Urrego will take up leadership of the IWC Secretariat in September.

Following a highly competitive recruitment process, the Bureau recommended offering the post of Executive Secretary to Martha.  As required by the IWC Rules of Procedure, a postal ballot of all member governments was then conducted to confirm the appointment.

Martha has more than 25 years experience leading and managing intergovernmental and international non-governmental organisations, substantive knowledge of natural resource management, conservation, and sustainable development.   

Martha has worked in the Colombian government including as Director General of National Parks, and for organisations including  IUCN, CARE International and most recently, as Secretary General of Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. She is a Colombian, French and Swiss national.
